The Reading List
As grants managers, we find ourselves swimming in information, and most likely paper, on any given day. Though your daily grind may feel like it provides all you would ever need to know about the philanthropic sector, there are many learning opportunities outside reading your grant files. Discover the myriad articles, books, and blogs taking a global look at philanthropy, or focusing on an aspect of the sector you may not know as well.
Many of you may be familiar with La Piana Consulting, a national firm dedicated to strengthening nonprofit organizations. According to its website, the organization works to transform the ways that nonprofits are led and managed so that they can achieve greater social impact. Their mission is to help nonprofits become more effective through enhanced strategy, leadership, and collaboration.
This goal is fulfilled in part, through the development of research publications and articles tackling a wide range of issues facing the sector. From strategic planning and evaluation, to partnerships and mergers, the information gives us a glimpse into industry trends and can even help us make better funding decisions.
Just last month, La Piana, in partnership with Grantmakers for Effective Organizations (GEO), published “Due Diligence Done Well: A Guide for Grantmakers.” This resource expands on earlier tools by GEO and La Piana, and also incorporates new research from Project Streamline.
