Martin Schneiderman of Information Age Associates demonstrated the Foundation Center’s newly enhanced Foundation Directory Online, which provides free access to interactive maps and charts. Additionally: Joyce Infante, Foundation Center SVP for Institutional Advancement, and Kati Neiheisel, eGrant Reporting Liaison were available to answer questions. Then, Mr. Schneiderman and Kyle Reis, GMN Co-Chair, provided an update on the development of an IRS-approved centralized source for equivalency determinations to improve efficiency for international grantmaking . Finally, John Casey, Treasurer of the Altman Foundation, will discuss the current financial landscape and how the economic crisis may affect grantmakers, grants managers, and grantees.

The GIFTS for Windows Users Group met to discuss issues, updates, and proposed improvements. This was followed by a Microedge staff presentation on the most current developments in the world of MicroEdge and GIFTS. The meeting ended with a session on Solpath. Solpath is a working group of foundation staff from several organizations that have come together to consider software solutions and options for grantmakers. Solpath discussed its ongoing work, including their creation of a “Consumers Guide to Grants Management Software."

The purpose of the GMN-NY Information Technology Committee will be to serve New York Region members interested in understanding how technology can contribute to more effective and efficient grants management processes. In this context, technology includes, but is not limited to, grants management databases, Web-based services (such as GuideStar), and other software, such as Microsoft Office.
