Pre-Conference Events
The 2010 Annual Conference Host Committee has planned three exciting activities for attendees who arrive early for the conference. These activities will provide participants with an opportunity to get to know fellow conference attendees while seeing some of the interesting sites in Baltimore. You can sign up for these activities during registration. Note: Participants will be responsible for paying any admission fees for these activities.
American Visionary Art Museum
Enjoy one of Baltimore’s unique cultural experiences in the company of your fellow GMNers on a guided tour of the American Visionary Art Museum. The unusual and moving presentations are creative expressions by self-taught artists sharing their personal visions and are unlike a traditional art museum visit. In addition to the permanent collection, a special exhibit on “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness” will be in progress. The concept for this international exhibit is "The quest for human rights and the search for personal fulfillment.” For more information on the museum, visit http://www.avam.org.
When: Sunday, March 14 at 1:30 pm. Meet Susan Wiener in the hotel lobby.
How: Stroll around the harbor to Federal Hill, the museum site.
Bonus: Museum shop, unique gifts, choice between guided and unguided tour
Maryland Science Center
If you have ever wondered how your GPS can find you in a matter of seconds or what makes up the daily life of a Maryland Blue Crab, join other curious minds on a trip to the informative and exciting Maryland Science Center. The Center houses both an IMAX theater with a rotating show schedule, including Van Gogh: Brush of Genius, Mystic India and Forces of Nature, and a Planetarium for the sky gazers. This family-friendly attraction has exhibits and hands-on activities ranging from the mystery of dinosaurs to energy-efficient cars. For more information on the Maryland Science Center, visit http://www.mdsci.org.
When: Sunday, March 14 at 1:30 pm. Meet Melia Moss in the hotel lobby.
How: Walk around the loop of the Baltimore Inner Harbor to the Science Center.
National Aquarium – Baltimore
Explore the ever developing underwater world of the National Aquarium, home to approximately 16,500 specimens and more than 660 species of animals. Whether you prefer to enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of the ocean at the live dolphin show or the 4-D Immersion Theater, the Aquarium will guide you through this fascinating ecosystem that makes up 70% of our earth. The newly opened exhibit Jellies Invasion: Oceans Out of Balance examines how Jellies have survived amidst environmental changes that have negatively affected other forms of sea life. For more information on the Aquarium, visit http://www.aqua.org.
When: Sunday, March 14 at 1:30 pm. Meet Leslie Dubuc in the hotel lobby.
How: Walk around the loop of the Baltimore Inner Harbor to the Aquarium.
I think this conference offers the best networking experience.
